Quote from: Grey Gentry on Oct 09, 2022, 12:56 AMHaving a "check in time" is so you all arrive around the same time, is how I see it.

The "check-in time" (a time window) was part of Davo's method of giving riders a taste of the IBA rallies and the ongoing encouragement of riders to pursue the longer distance rides.  This check-in time is normally used as a target for riders to report in, if you were outside the time window allocated you started losing points from what you had gathered.  A lot of rallies, IBA or otherwise use this system.
As Ron has suggested above it also encouraged similar arrival times so that there were more riders around to socialise with.

You will not be penalised if you arrive one minute late!

... nor is there any reward for checking-in within the time window.  Just good to keep practising the discipline.

There was no suggestion of penalising FarRiders in the post, nor is there a suggestion to penalise riders doing one of the Far Road rides. Just a little bit of history.  Davo never penalised riders either.

Are you sure?

Once check in is declared closed that's it. Enjoy your lunch.

I seem to remember two riders on their first FarRide arriving at Nambucca and missing "the window". They never received a number and didn't enjoy their lunch.
Their protestations that they'd ridden "all the way" from Adelaide fell on deaf but sympathetic ears.

Am fairly certain they didn't miss check in on their second attempt.

Spell and punctuate Far Road any way you like, just don't call me late for lunch!

No, no it wouldn't.

What it would mean is that Kwaka is taking the qualification seriously so that for those that achieve it, it means something.

This is not a participation award, it's an achievement award.

If I ever mess up ( and at the Farride at Eungella a couple of years ago I came veeery close), I will accept that I haven't achieved the desired standard and go enjoy my lunch and deal with my disappointment.

As I would hope any grown up would.

I missed the check in at Nindigully pub by 4 minutes. No cigar for that one, but still a great ride.

My intention is to get there about 9am but I'm not sure what zone now. Back to do some maths.
Will be leaving qld border and heading to the twin servos at wyong on the M1.
Turn around and go to Grafton.
Then head west to Hebel.
If all goes to plan I will have time to go to StGeorge and return to Hebel, having done 2000km.
If all goes pear shaped, I will head home from Grafton.

I was out at Dirranbandi 30/9 for the Scrapheap Challenge ride and the HEBEL road had only been open a few days and was v wet. Our forecast here in SE QLD looks wet all this week and into the next.
Have a plan to go to HEBEL via Roma but that's on hold until 27/10 here's hoping!

I was going to Hebel Via Moree and St George.
Have seen that roads are damaged near Gravesend, which was where I was going to travel through.
Looks like it will be a last minute decision for me weather (see what I did there) I do a SS2000, 1600, just ride there, or stay at home.

Access is difficult from just about any direction at the moment with Hebel almost an island. A lot of the water will disappear over the next few days, but the road damage will still be there.

I was planning to go as an out & back day ride, but will see how it plays out in the coming days. I cant afford it to turn into an overnighter, and in good conditions it's a 15h return trip so any road damage or detours might push it beyond my leave pass conditions  :(

I'm in Coffs Harbour on the final leg of rides that began on Wednesday 12th October. Pulled up short of home feeling quite seedy. It feels as if I won't be up for a challenging ride- maybe even an easy ride will be beyond me!

We all know taking care out there is a great mantra. Sometimes hard to abide by but when your not 100% or circumstances are in the negative, things can and often will go pear shaped all too quickly.

We also know that when it comes right down to it, there is no shame in implementing the only viable option, pulling the pin.
