LDM Tidal River VIC

The Port MacDonnell and Tidal River (12th November) rides are not official Far Road rides, as they will not start until early 2023.
These rides are casual LDM's (Long Distance Meet) rides where there is no registration for these rides, start dockets are not required and no formal check-in will occur.
It is expected that most attendees will stop for a chat and lunch.

The rides listed until the end of this year are/were from the FarRiders listed rides. As FarRiders no longer exists, neither do the rules or requirements apply so now, the rides have morphed into LDM.
Long distance meet, greet and eat for the pure fun and riding camaraderie.

NOTE: West 51 still has receipt requirement as per Wombat's post.

I plan to head to Tidal River for the LDM meet and greet, I appreciate the old days are gone but will ride this like a FarRide for the last time as a personal thing for me.

I have been planning to go to the past few farrides, but one thing or another, work and moving house has got in the way.  Looking forward to having no excuses for the Tidal River meetup.  Should be well and truly settled into the new house by then, and that weekend is clear on my work roster.

Day visitor entry to the park is free with the main visitor facilities located at Tidal River. Please exit the park before sunset.

I was going to give a "short" report on the Ride to Eat to Tidal River. But anyone who knows me, knows I can't give a "short" report. But anyway here goes.
 Elwyn and I had prepared the guest wing for our intended visitor from Corryong. Friday I headed of to meet Kimmie at Yea then escort her home to Trafalgar.
 The weather leading up Friday had been stunning, clear sunny days and warm temperatures. But that was to change on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
 Road works on the Melba Hwy. slowed my northerly progress slightly but I still had 30 minutes before the midday meet time. Yea bakery provided tasty rolls for our break. The roadworks didn't slow us much until we got to the Woori Yallock - Cockatoo Rd. which required a detour due to a landslip.
 It was here that I became "slightly" geographically embarrassed. No big issue and the remainder of our jaunt home was uneventful.
 My concern was now directed at Saturday's weather. No need for concern, overcast and very mild. Via Thorpdale, Mirboo North, Meeniyan and Fish Creek we wound our way to "The Prom".
 For those of you that haven't experienced what the powers of government departments can provide, I suggest you do the ride from the Promontory Gate [old pay booth] to Tidal River, smooth, new hotmix [while rest of the State crashes through pot holed tarmac] all the way, yes it's 80 kph but at that speed you can still "ENJOY" yourself.
 Attendees were, of course, Kimmie and myself along with Alan Hutchinson "Large" from Stirling in the Adelaide Hills [Kawasaki GTR 1400], Shannon Kinsella "Snooze", [BMW K1200] from Newcastle and Phil Morrison "Philmor", [Suzuki 650] from Loch in South Gippsland. A small but select group.
 Large was an early leaver wanting to get back into South Australia before the weather [that was predicted] arrived. Snooze was on a more relaxed ride home whilst Kimmie and myself followed Philmor home for some of Joymor's home baking for afternoon tea.
 As I had been informed by my good wife not to be late for the evening roast dinner Kimmie and I enjoyed a spirited ride through the South Gippsland scenery for that 6 PM deadline.
 Sunday dawned drying after overnight showers giving Kimmie a reasonably dryish ride home, arriving about 3.30 PM. after a rather hectic few days enjoying what originally had been the last scheduled FarRide for 2022.

[Snooze]

* Leaving Newcastle on a clear Friday I headed down the M1 to Goulburn then to Canberra stopping for a look at a full Lake St. George which is a rare event. Clear skies saw me through Cooma and Bombala but dark skies started to gather as I entered the mountains towards Cann River. About 10 k's before Cann River the sky opened with torrential rain and thunder with my speed down to 50. It eased up some 20 minutes after Cann River with light rain most of the way to Bainsdale where I stayed the night.
* Next morning with clear weather, road to Tidal River where I meet up with Kimmie, Large, Philmor and Hackle. Large didn't stay long as Hackle explained but Kimmie and myself enjoyed and laughed at Philmor and Hackle having a good banter, for a nicer word, with each other😄😄😄and interesting conversation between the 4 of us. Very enjoyable company thank you.
* After leaving I headed to Rosedale to spend 2 nights with my sister who I haven't seen since before Covid. We spent Sunday sightseeing, driving up to a very beautiful place called Balook then to Port Albert for a fish lunch then home via a circular route going through some delightful small towns.
* Weather forecast said rain for Monday so I had 2 plans. If it was heavy rain I decided to go via the highway through Melbourne then up the Hume but if clear via Cann River and the Manaro Highway.
* Monday morning woke at 5 to find clear skies so said goodbye to sis and headed of at 6.
* Great run through till coming out of the mountains approaching Bombala where almost gale force winds were blowing. It was like this till near Canberra. I've been riding for nearly 50 years but have never ridden in winds like this. It was frightening. I needed the whole lane to ride with the bike almost at 45 degrees or it seams like that at times.
* Good run after Canberra till just before the start of the M7 where there was an accident and the all lanes were at crawl pace for a few klm's then another crash halfway along the M7 and another clutch workout for several klm's.
* Finally got home 6.30pm.
* I had a very good weekend, great company mostly good weather, thanks guys.
