Ride coordinated by Tackleberry. Registration is now available on Ridemaster. Ride details are below in the next post.
Ok peoples a few more details.
Destination: Alpha, QLD.
Time arrival: 11:30 - 12:00.
Meeting Location: Alpha Hotel Motel, 33 Shakespeare Street, Alpha.
I have spoken with Rav the owner and he said he will do something for us all and has accommodation for those that want to stay overnight. The local reports are food isn't bad so here's hoping we can confirm this.
More details as they come forward, but it's time to start planning.
I have put it into my calendar Thank You Tackleberry
Ditto. Even raised the matter with SWAMBO... ???
Being somewhat of a free agent these days, I reckon I'm good to go for this one. Now, which bike to ride?
Should Have checked my calendar, I've committed to the Distinguished Gentlemen's ride the next day. I'm out. Next time fella's.
I am planning to be there. Have lunch and a yarn and head home again.
if all goes to plan, I'm hoping to make it to this one. It'll be a last minute call if I go.
So if I say I am coming here is that the same as registering or do I have to do something else?
Hop you will have to register through Ridemaster which can be found here buddy as it has gone live today:
https://rides.jasonjonas.com/index.php
It will send you an email and then you follow the bouncing ball.
I've just done it and it's painless.
I'm in! ;)
Just nominated a simple FR1000, even though I might stretch it a bit further.
Just an observation- on the registration page it says registrations close 23rd May. Surely that should be the 15th (or more traditionally, the 17th) that is, before the event rather than after it.
Just registered
cheers

Thanks for registering guys cause I don't have to bring my 'special friends' now to make me look like I know people.
I have started a registration sheet with details as everybody registered because Taff has set it up that I get your details including emergency contacts in case something happens, but we don't want to use them hopefully.
Boggles I think the date is an anomaly and it somebody turns up late I'm sure Rav will feed them if he's open.
Hope everybody enjoys the ride and I'm throwing out a little challenge to make the longest words you can with the first letter of town names as part of your planning and I'll see what I can work out as a prize.
Keep the rubber down and hope we have a few turn up. We're booked for 15-20 so we still have some room and they have more food available than that.
OK peoples of the LD persuasion thinking of venturing into sunny central western QLD in a little over a week, just a couple of things to consider.
When you're planning your distances please make sure you have time planned to be at the luncheon location between 11:30am - 12pm. Have your start docket with a time on it within 24hrs for your registration and what your plan is for the distance you sign up with. If you are completing the ride at lunch I will also need to record total km ridden please.
There is a website that is handy for planning is called QLD Traffic which gives you a heads up on roadworks and other possible delays.
https://qldtraffic.qld.gov.au/ There are some slower zones around the target location on the Capricorn Hwy so depending on which way you are coming to meet up with us.
I now have three friends for lunch so we still have room at the table so don't be scared we won't bite, unless you want. ;D
Interesting source of info, Tack!
For example, it says "Controlled Burn on Sunday 16 April 2023 from 9am to 4pm", with a note that the info was updated today, 12th May. Gotta wonder.
Also references to flooding on the Capricorn Hwy to the east. Could that still be the case? It was updated this morning. :-\
There has been rain in the area and some of the road is very low, but I would suggest that it be used only as a reference for planning and not gospel. I have used it for years, and as most sources the further away from the coast you get the less reliable it is for accuracy Biggles.
Just put it up as a potential source so people weren't caught off guard because I know some people try and time their rides pretty close when stringing some together.

I'll share a bowl of chips with ya Tack ;)
Registration done, cabin booked for Friday Night, new boots & gloves. Looking forward to getting back on the hores, it's been too long between rides. It'll be a straight forward up & back, but here's the linkylinky - Spada's Alpha trip (https://new.spotwalla.com/trip/c3ae-17bd6543a-6504/view) It'll go live lunchtime Friday.
Quote from: Spada on May 15, 2023, 03:09 AMLooking forward to getting back on the hores,
Horse... I meant Horse... :o
Thanks Spada.
OK guys and girls I have a few friends that are willing to travel but I want to give Rav a chance to order whatever he needs to provide us with lunch so I would like to call on Thursday to give him a heads up for any orders, so if you're considering please register so I can give him some numbers.
Remember he doesn't have the same stuff available as the coast so he needs time to order.
Hope to see you there.
Not sure what he has but I will go a steak sanga and chips.
Thanks

Here's my SPOT link. It goes live at 10:00pm.

Hello everybody - there appears to only be a few of us us making the trip, but whenever you start your journey, and whatever distance you're planning (Biggles) stay safe and remember ... it's just a road.
Leaving home lunch time today, loud shirt packed.
Unfortunately I'm unable to post Spotwalla link as the latest update to Bubbler does not support my perfectly working 5 year old Samsung phone and I can not revert to the previous version.
cheers

Pulled up at Injune for the night, quite a lot of roo's around dusk. Pub dinner & early night, will be back on the road at sunrise.
So my ride went flat with my rear tyre about 200k out. So I won't make it today. Not sure what I hit but it is a pretty big hole. Disappointing
Bugger Hop. Hope you got it sorted buddy and made a good ride anyway.
Well we had 6 of us turn up today with Biggles checking in and keep on going for his run that I'll let him bring you up to speed on what he's doing.
Rav, the owner, and his brother Karl were very thankful of us arriving on their doorstep and sharing a conversation with them and spending some money in their establishment.
Anyway it was a great day for a ride and the scenery was great with recent rain making some beautiful colours to view in the vista.
Thanks for organising it Tackleberry, It was good to get back out for a decent ride after several years on the sidelines. 2157km for the round trip over 37h. Was great to catch up with some familiar faces.
Thanks Tackleberry again for organizing the venue and the weather although it could have been a bit warmer in the mornings. Great to catch up with some old and not so old faces again. Smell the roses trip back arriving home at about 4:30 this afternoon with 2095Km for the weekend.
cheers

Home at lunchtime today after overnighting in Gayndah.
I got away from home at 10:30pm Friday. Once out in the higher country the temp dropped to zero for a while and I was thankful for my heated gloves, vest and grips. Brecky was found at Dingo and I rocked in to Alpha at 11:00 to be met by Tackleberry. Soon after the rest arrived. The Publican obliged by taking our photos. He reckoned the bikes should feature, so we got him to take a second shot to feature the riders for the inaugural NE iRode. I should add that when the jackets came off, there were two more of those old Ochre shirts to accompany mine.

I secured a few mural shots for a competition and then returned to Emerald. Always liking a different route home, I went south to Springsure and Rolleston, then east to Moura, south to Theodore and finally east through Cracow, Eidsvold and Gayndah- 1799km for the iRode and 2226 for the weekend.
Good to see a couple of successful rides this weekend guys. I got home this afternoon and only covered just under 2000km for the three days I actually rode, which was the first decent ride in a number of years, so hopefully another one later this year.
Good to see a few people travelling to Alpha to enjoy the lunch and social.
Unfortunately we had two that weren't able to join due to malfunctions, but we hope they enjoyed the riding they got in.
Over to the next organiser to get another one in the list. Thanks again guys and hope you enjoyed.
Yep I got home OK. Fortunately I was only 3.5hrs rom home so was able to get the Ute out to pick me up.
Still keen to visit again sometime.
Look forward to the next one.
Thanks

Congrats on a successful iRode folks, looking forward to coming to a NE ride one day.
Good to see the photos of the riders at that made it to Alpha, I wasn't one of them as I lost a pannier between Kilkivan and Gayndah. I spent the rest of the Saturday looking for it.Looking forward to the Theodore ride. Yes I did get it back a chap from Goovgin (NW of Biloela) rang to say he had found a BMW pannier on the Tannsey Rd. Cheers David G

So how did he find you?
Hi Biggles,
He cut the tab that locks the pannier and recovered my licence and then used the white pages to track me down.I carry all my cards on my phone but on trips I carry my hard cards as a back up incase the phone decides to play up.
Cheers Dave

Excellent that there are honest people who go to that much trouble to help out. You got me thinking I should put my phone number on my panniers. But Honda ones don't fall off. ;)
Oh, but they do! If you don't attach them properly, as happened to me twice (top box once, LH pannier once) when I was far less familiar with my bike.
This arrived today (after being sent back for a couple of corrections):

I've asked if they can find a way to centre the map in the frame so there's less Indian Ocean and all of the east coast. Perhaps even include Tasmania!
So what and when is the Theodore ride that David G speaks of?
I did not make Alpha either and I would be keen to catch up.
Where do I look?
Talk soon

I floated that one, and I'm keen to do it, but not in Winter after riding through 0
o on the Alpha ride. I suggest a date a bit later in the year.
I had it in my calendar for the 22nd July????? I am still no quite sure of the way that you will know for sure if a ride is happening. Is the calendar the thing to check?? If it is listed in there it is happening???
David G
Biggles,
I'm up for the challenge of a cool ride to Theodore on 22/7/23, after all it will only cold first thing in the morning.
cheers
