Title: Our first Far Road ride - the Inaugural iRode/s
Post by: kwaka on Oct 03, 2022, 03:51 PM
Our inaugural ride looms large on the horizon.

When and where (and how) is the puzzle.
To be fair, I've been toying with the notion that an inaugural iRode be held in each zone and on the same day sometime in Jan/Feb 2023.

It is assumed that zones will be:
eNth = eNorth = East North
eSth = eSouth = East South
Centre
West
Tassie

Anyways, that's my thinking for now. Like all good plans, subject to change.  :)

That would make it hard to decide which one to go to and might restrict overall numbers at each event? Could work to have Centre, West & Tassie at the same time, but I suspect some East coast members would have difficulty choosing between a North or South option if they were the same weekend, but might do both if on alternate weekends. I can remember some (Hackle, was it you?) doing Tassie, then Moree, then Mackay when they were on consecutive weekends. Some did it as three seperate rides, some did it as one extended trip.

Separate rides in different places is a good idea. I doubt you will ever get everyone together in the same place at the same time, possible but unlikely.
Having an inaugural Far Rode at separate destinations at the same time creates its own history, "where were you for the first Far Road/iRode". Leave it to the individuals to decide which one they ride.

I find when faced with an intersection giving me alternative routes to the same direction, that it is painfully impossible to ride both at the same time.
Same with the inaugural Far Rode.
Multiple locations on the one day (across this sunburned land).
Pick a destination, ride there, then hang your hat on the statement "For the very first Far Rode gathering, I went to......."
Other 'celebratory' gatherings, you can then choose your location (same/different/don't go ;) )

For me personally, when I ride the first one for this great community, it'd be quite the 'thing' to know that, as I stood amongst like minded friends at a location here in the West, somewhere, else in Australia (at other locations), likewise cyber-friends are doing the exact same thing.

Let's get this party started 8)

Except for that annoying time difference- unless you synchronised the time and did yours 2 hours earlier than usual, e.g. 9:30 to 10:00 check-in.

true that, especially considering most of the eastern states are now 3 hours different to us.
Bah humbug ;D

Yeah, the TZ difference is exactly why I didn't say on the same date because that implies, the same day and time.

However, if the want is there for an in-sync check in window, go for it.  :)

My fellow LD compatriots.
Dates, dates and more dates. No not the eating kind or the ones behind.

Firstly, I plan to leave the organization/arranging of iRode ride dates to the Admin Teams and the forum proper unless I have a specific date/s and or special events in mind.

Ergo:
First Saturday every August is the Border Run.
The 2nd Saturday in September will always be the annual Memorial Meet at Wilmington, Sth Aust.
The IBA Memorial Netallie Hill meet over the period set in Oct/Nov each year.

I guess too that suggestions should also be called for regarding venues and locations. So then, over to you intrepid iRoaders. Where to next?

The West is dry. I don't think there will be any rain until Easter next year.

You East coasters would have to suffer the rain at the beginning and end. But like a Border Run.

A suggestion ....
Let's make the Inaugural Far Road ride (iRode) on the fourth Saturday in February 2023, which will be Saturday 25th February 2023.
Local ride co-ordinators can change the date to suit their local circumstances, but not to an earlier date.

In subsequent years the first official ride of the year can also be on the fourth Saturday in February which will mean the dates will be between the 22nd & the 28th.
Local venues can change it to an earlier date after the first year.

The 4th Saturday in Feb also avoids the need to for us riders to choose where we want to be on Valentine's Day (or that weekend).  8)

I think all of the regions (Tassie, West, Centre, East South & East North) should hold their very first ride on the same day, so we can all say that we attended the "first ride" for Far Roads.

Just sayin ....

I really like this idea too.

As an additional suggestion, how about the destinations for the different regions in the east, (Tasmania, East South, Centre and East North) be to a locale that has suffered from flooding this year? Assuming that it is all over by February, so we can contribute to the local economy in a small way at least.

Unfortunately no restriction on choice for these places.

Yep, I included 2 flood locations in my East South ride location suggestions (https://farroad.au/forum/index.php/topic,331.msg1420/topicseen.html#new)
